Soap, candles and lotions made with the sun
In 2007 we installed a large photo voltaic solar array on the roof of our factory which supplied 75% of our factory’s energy needs. It was so successful that 2009 we increased our array to cover all of our energy needs. So far our solar panels have produced 70,000 kw of electricity which is the equivalent to 1600 barrels of diesel oil. See what our solar panels are producing right now. |

Forrest friendly packaging
Over time we have been switching of our printed paper packaging to either recycled paper or Forest Stewardship Council certified paper. On the back of much of our packaging you will see the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo. The FSC is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. |

Going green sometimes includes a free lunch
In recognition of our efforts on Kauai we were honored at the annual Kauai Green Business awards luncheon held by the Kapaa Rotary Club of Kauai. Island Soap's owner Steve Connella was there to accept the award and enjoy a nice buffet lunch. |

Helping the future with old news
Finding an economical and earth friendly packing material can be a challenge and no one likes those styrofoam peanuts. Fortunately we have found a great win win solution. We purchase rolls of blank unwanted surplus newsprint paper from the Garden Island, our local newspaper, to use as our packing material. Using this recyclable packing material both protects our products in shipping and helps the Garden Island dispose of it's surplus paper. We use approximately 2,000 lbs of recyclable packing material a year. |
